a friend gave me an old Vintage guitar magazine yesterday. inside was an article about the queen of pedal steel guitar Marian Hall. it was written by Cindy Cashdollar.
a very informative article. what an eye opener.
as a child my father played steel guitar music on the phonograph. on saturdays we all sat around the round TV set and watched classic country.
one would think with all that exposure I would have heard of Ms Hall. nope.
Thankyou Cindy for a great article.

I used to own Marion Hall's D-8 Bigsby. Pictures on me playing it when I was 19 on my web-site,(www.bobbeseymour.com). Jr. Brown ownes this Bigsby now. I have recordings of her playing this guitar.
She recorded some with Joe Maphis. Seriously not a bad player at all for the time. Great tone and execution as I remember. I loved her style.
I also believe she worked on the "Town Hall Party".
You more mature Californians should remember this.

Being an old SoCal boy I got to hear Marion play live at Town Hall Party when I was a teenager. Bad part is, I was into Merle Travis and Joe Maphis so I watched them more and didn't pay too much attention to the steel player. Now I wish I'd have been more attentive. I have a couple of CD's which have her on it. One is all live performances at THP and the other is the Joe Maphis "Fire On The Strings" album. She had a great touch and tone for sure....JH in Va.
