As I replied to Andy's post about this article on Facebook, it's about five years old so this now makes Bobby about 81. And he's still going strong. He told me after a show a few months ago he did with a friend of mine, Kevin Russell (who b0b often plays with) that he has many weeks where he is playing 3-4 gigs.
The man is a steel guitar playing fountain of youth, and he looks about 15 years younger than his actual age. _________________ Mark |

Great article! Bobby is my regular sub in The Rhythm Rangers, when I can't do a gig. He also plays with another of Kevin's bands "Kevin Russell and His So-Called Friends", which is sort of a North Bay all-star lineup.

A young man I'm not - but if there is an "older man" my wife Sandy would go for, it might be Bobby Black. She just loves him, and the man is a charmer.
He was telling me the story that was mentioned in the article about how he was in Hawaii many years ago and went to see Jerry Byrd play, perhaps his ultimate music hero along with Joaquin Murphey.
He was a little nervous, and he went up to Jerry after the set to meet him for the first time and said something like, "Mr. Byrd, my name is Bob Black and I play steel guitar."
Jerry replied with, "Oh, I know who you are."
