Waiting for a Fender fix. And waiting & waiting and waiting

I took in a Fender Deluxe 90 to get the reverb replaced as well as the pot that controls the reverb level (bumped a door frame and bent the stem). Was suggested to get two other pots replaced as well as they were loose.

The reverb fix was no problem, but the tech is still waiting on the pots. Have been waiting for parts for 4 1/2 months.

I have always had a good experience with this tech, who has an excellent reputation...but 4 1/2 months?

They don't make the Deluxe 90 anymore, and it was explained to me that replacement parts are very difficult to come by.

I thought I would throw this up on the discussion board. On the one hand, I am terribly impatient, on the other I have no reason to doubt that the tech is doing his best. Does this sound reasonable? Thoughts?

I'm no tech..but a pot's a pot. If 2 are loose, tighten 'em up. Seems like pots have a 'value' and a 'taper'.. match 'em up and go. I doubt Fender made a purchase of 'special pots' just for that amp. Good luck.

Unless it's a circuit board mounted pot. Then it's a specialized part that has to have the same pin spacing and dimensions as the original. I don't know anything about the Fender 90 but suspect that it's a PC mounted pot. Still, it seems that there could be some sort of work-around. I expect many techs don't want to cobble something together if the correct part is still available.

Didn't think of it being a PCB thing! :oops: I'll bet you're right on that!

Bill is correct. I had a quick peek at a schematic online and it appears to be a 50K PCB mounted pot that also has a "snap in" shroud.

Your tech probably called Fender and they told him that the pots are back ordered. The Fender sales person will usually give them a date when they are expected to arrive. Sometimes the parts arrive earlier and sometimes they don't. You might check some of the links that George provided to see if anyone has the part available.

dont buy anything from fender with a printed board....period.

well in all fairness, every retail manufacturer these days uses PC bds. Ever try to take a PV Classic X apart ?

Parts are common, any tech worth his or her salt can acquire the PROPER replacement parts almost overnight from any of the major outlets. 4 months is nuts . Fender didn't invent the parts, they SELECTED the parts from readily available parts suppliers.

A few years ago, I went through a Champ 25, (only made in the early 90's). AES had the pots, and jacks in stock. (Of course Fender didn't make it easy, by installing the circuit board upside down)!
