I have a 12 string MSA that i had ext, tuning on,i had decided to change to a universal tuning. It is an old MSA with 2 raises and 2 lowers. I got the tuning off of Carters site under "Ask Bud". Well i have it all set up except the 12th string. It is a B string supposed to go down to G#, but it won,t go down that far will only go down to A!!!! Need some help to get it there!!!!! So suggestions are open!!! Old Dave Frye

Just a guess, but since those MSA's don't have adjustable return springs, that one was probably never used and may have too much tension. Try swapping it out with one that looks like it has been stretched some, or disconnect it and hold the lower finger by hand to see if it will go all the way with less tension. If so you can stretch it a little with a pair of pliers.

another possibility is to add a longer bellcrank for that lower if it's the tavel that's the culprit

What gauge string are you using?
I use GeorgeL 079 compound wound which seems to have a larger core than the 070 or 074.

I have used all three gauges on both my Fessy and my push-pull, so that may not be the culprit, but it's worth a try. Scotty sells the GeorgeL strings in individual packets. I love the big mama string -- got the idea from the 'Buddy Emmons' C6 set and I've been using the 079 ever since. You may need to loosen the return spring too. Just take one side loose and force a small screwdriver down between a couple of the coils. It's really not a very long throw so I doubt the bellcrank is too short -- but anything is possible.

I think you'll like the 079 on the bottom, in any case. Works great for me.
