What are some brands of slide guitars, like the Melobar,Peavey, that are for standing. Saw one in a video a while back, and can't remember who it was.Built like a standard guitar, with a wedge on the back to make it stay up.

If look at some old Grand Ole Opry videos you might be able to catch one that has a stand up player who is playing a little Gibson with a strap around his neck. It could be either Bashful Brother Oswald or Cousin Jody.
I think it's the one without any teeth. :whoa:

There are a few makers who have some answers to this. Lap King http://www.lapking.com/options.html offers the "stage hand", an add-on support arm. Asher has the "belly bar," http://asher-guitars-lap-steels-store.m ... it-upgrade, also an add-on. And DL Lap Steels have an option for a flat board that rests against your mid-section. I don't see a page for it on their site, but look in the photo gallery on page 3. http://dllapsteel.com/dl-photo-gallery/nggallery/page/3

Megan Lovell of Larkin Poe www.larkinpoe.com had a custom frame made for her Ric so she can stand up with it. I used to use something similar that Ted Smith of Melobar made called the Outrigger -- it was a fiberglas shell that looked like a Dobro body -- it screwed into the back of the lap steel.

Nowadays, I use a custom made steel designed for standing up (the blue one in my avatar)

Then there's this, for those of you who thought the Power Slide was too subdued:

In one of Del Ray Grace's Sacred Steel TV features it shows Aubrey Ghent standing and playing, I think, a Gibson EH 150 with a strap

Thanks for all the replies so far. Wish I could remember what band I saw it in. Was well known country group I think, which video I may never find. It was more like the Melobar. What I saw was a lap type guitar, with a large wedge made in to the back to lay on the belly. That keeps the whole guitar up in the air.
