The back legs on my Sho-Bud keep sliding shorter. Is there any way to repair the clutch on them so they will tighten better? If not, anyone know would have the best deal on legs?? |

Just get a piece of wood dowel rod, from a home repair store, that will just fit inside the larger tube. Cut it to length so that the smaller tube hits it at the total lenght you want.

YEs what happens is over the years; the threads wear metal shavings and needs to be cleaned.
Just take it apart and clean the threads on both the leg and the tightener collar with 3&1 oil and a rag and your good to go.

I just opened up my slippery old Sho-Bud leg and found a broken black plastic washer that fell out in 4 pieces. Without this thing it won't even tighten up a little bit. So let's look at the hardware store for this piece.
There is a second washer/ring/band but this one only goes 98% of the way around the leg. This one is brown and tigher than the black one. It's closer to the floor end. |

Scotty's has clutch repair kits (I believe from Atlas). They work like a champ.

Ricky, the problem does seem to be the threads but they're too far gone to tighten even after cleaned up. Glad I didn't order the clutch parts as they're half the price of the car & wouldn't have corrected the problem. Looks like I'll be going with the wood dowell (thanks Clyde) & maybe drop a washer in there so the metal doesn't get into cracking the wood. A set hieght will be fine cause I'm the one that will be playing this one for a long time (hopefully). Thanks for the replys! |
