will play any melody in any key, any mode, any rhythmn, and any harmony, and perhaps with countermelody?

Band in a Box yes, and you can buy and down load. Try the demo--but dont make too much a project because you cant save your work on the demo. Also the program has a learning curve--but simple cord progression--easy
