Past week or so.. I have seen a few Mavericks,a MultiKord and a Carter Starter but thats it.. Its been quite a while since I've seen a decent steel on ebay. The last Maverick sold for $615..!!
Someone must have rocks in thier head to pay that for a Maverick.. I've seen S10 MSA,BMI and a few older sho Bud pro models going for just a hundred or so more in the past year or so. I wonder if the days of finding a good used steel at a nice price is over??? bob |

well, what it probably means is that attempting to sell a hi ticket item at Christmas time may not be a good idea..
give it a few weeks..or less..
people have Stuff
EBAY is a place to sell Stuff
people want Stuff
Ebay is a place to go and get more Stuff
That formula will never change..

Well, maybe it's just reached the point where everyone knows that the Steel Guitar Forum is the best place to sell a steel guitar. |

There are alot of basket cases on ebay. Missing parts and guitars out of regulation and poorly maintained. The Forum is a better way to find a quality used instrument that you won't be disapointed in when it arrives. There's nothing worse than opening the case to find a misreprented instrument that will take a couple of three hundred dollars to put back in playing condition.
Steels in GOOD used condition are also just getting harder to find. |

When we launched the infamous RED PEDAL STEEL 3+4 educational campaign on ebay last fall we had hoped that it would result in folks being more careful about what they bid on and it seems that some fast-buck artists who used to take people's money with a regular stream of garbage have flat out disappeared.
This is good.
Too bad that the remaining offerings have grown so slim, though. For myself, I am definitely watching the forum more now for instruments, though a good P/P or ShoBud on ebay will still get my attention. Seems like it's all Carter Starters, Mavericks (and not the nice-looking wood ones, either) and an occcasional MSA lately.
Despite the growing awareness of the forum as far as experienced players go, I think Tony's right, it's the place to market to the world and will remain so for the forseeable future.

eBay is a worldwide market place, if you choose to sell worldwide, I don't think there's a better place for a seller.
I believe this Forum is the best place for a buyer.
At eBay no-one can post negitive comments about your item or your price, even if it's true.

Have Duane & Jeff built any new Sho-Buds from scratch, or would they be in trouble with Fred G.?

Crowbear I've been looking at that U12 Sho Bud. It looks really nice. Much as I'd like to have a 12 string, just can't let go of the $$ right now, but I sure like the look of that guitar. |

Yes David....Chet is back . With a re-designed changer and lever action for smoother operation. A really decent guitar for what you pay. They do sound good. I actually wish I could afford another Wilcox with the updates....but,I'm out of money.Next horn will be a D-10 though.

Has anyone here played one of Chet's PSG's??
I saw that blue one on ebay and the price looked good, but I am very cautious about buying anything off ebay. Just curious |

Dan Burnham said that Chet was not going to build any more guitars, but a man is allowed to change his mind. Maybe his new system is a significant improvement and he wants to give it another try. He seems to buy good pickups for his product, but as Chet himself says in the listing " some parts are precission made and some are not" - I suggest you do a forum search for "Wilcox" and see what others who HAVE purchased and/or played Chet's guitars have to say about them. Here are a few threads that I found:

Nothing at all the matter with buying something cheap (or expensive) on eBay IF you know exactly what you're bidding on.[This message was edited by Dave Grafe on 06 January 2005 at 10:13 AM.] |

Dan Poland,
I own and play a Wilcox, and I love it. It plays good and is a very nice horn. I have the old style changer and lever system, and I really only have one complaint. The front leg threads were not cut to the same "tilt". I have conferred with Chet and he has informed me that he has corrected this problem. This is one of asthetics and has nothing to do with the play-ability. I also have pics of the new lever system, and I must say it is a nice piece of engineering.Another new feature is adjustable bellcrank stops. Chet is a nice guy and builds a great guitar for the money, hands down. I have had nothing but nice compliments on the sound of the guitar. The Jerry Wallace pickup sounds awesome. I don't have any tuning problems like those mentioned on previous threads. Remember, steel guitars are more mechanical than anything else. From time to time, they need worked on,no matter WHAT BRAND you play. I feel like I stold mine, as a bought it USED from a fellow forumite.
