I teach a class where we build solid body 6 string lap steels. Because of time constraints and cost, I have continued to use electric guitar bridges from eBay like you commonly see on Rogue guitars and the like. A long time ago I posted a question here looking for examples of relatively easy to make nuts and bridges out of brass or stainless. I'm not able to find that post. May be too old. So, I would welcome any examples of bridges and or nuts that might work for student made steels. Thanks, Bob

Angle Brass 7 inches long. 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/8 Thickness $15.00 + shipping

Lowest Cost to you -- Simply cut to your lengths for both Nut and Bridge

Clean Up with a file and Steel Wool or 1000 git sand paper. This material is easy to drill holes for hold down screws and to add V Grooves for your strings as you choose your spacing. Our String Spacing fixture shown below makes this very easy and accurate.

Here are photos , of a nut and bridge each with 30 minutes of effort.

Thanks for the replies. Do you have metal tubing through the body to keep the strings from digging into the wood? Thanks, Bob

The Holes in my photo are set up for TOP FERRULES - we get them from Stew-Mac for around 3 dollars a set.

They Press in , but I use a dab of Epoxy.

In my instruments I do a triple drill, the inside is 3/32 diameter , same as the Inside of the ferrule.

Then I do a larger drill to fit the Ferrule just deep enough for it . This makes the strings go right thru them when installing the strings.
On the Bottom I make another larger hole to accept the Ball on the String ends.

It is a detail worth the effort and any simple drill press will work.
