I just wanted to post a tool that I have been using as a practice aid. Hopefully it may be useful to some of you as well. There are similar tools out there but this is my take on it, so give it a try and I would appreciate the feedback.

(Windows/64-bit) Download the .zip folder from the following Dropbox link:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6ncctf4z6ki2 ... a_qEa?dl=0

Download Instructions:

Finally, here is a video describing some functionality.

Thanks,

Paul

Has anyone tried running this? Comments, concerns? I haven't gotten any inquiries.

I can't run it on my Mac. :( What language did you write it in?

So currently, I don't have a Mac OS version available. If there is enough interest, I can investigate the tools required to get one ready. I'm thinking Py2App, but if anyone is a Python developer and has a better option then I would like to hear it.

The OP says the Dropbox link is only for Windows 64-bit platforms right now.

I would be interested in a Mac version.

Unfortunately if I follow the link provided, I get a Dropbox location with a slew of files. If there was just a single .zip file, that would help. Plus, I did try 'Download' and it requires a login. So I gave up at that point.

I don't have (and don't want) a Dropbox account. Thus I can't download/try it.

Jack and Ken,

Please check out the updated Download tutorial video located here: https://youtu.be/fCFtkCaH-6o

You don't need a Dropbox account to download the .zip folder.

Thanks,

Paul

I watched your tutorial video and it looked like the best construction of a program like that I've seen, and I've tried most of the ones on the forum. I will definitely try to download when I get home.

Got it after looking at the Video.

One thing, "open" (F0) is not shown. F12 is shown and its a duplicate of F0, but most others of this type show Open.

My copy does not show Major/Minor chords. I only have options for 7th chords. See screen capture. (I am on Windows 10 Pro).

I seen some replies on trouble downloading..I followed the instructions on the downloading video and it downloaded properly..however when I tried running the
executable Windows 10 SmartScreen would not let it run..I opened Cortina and typed in Smartscreen which it opened and followed the instructions on allowing the file to run and it ran properly..I could see a lot of Windows 10 users running into the same problem..smartscreen can be disabled.

Thank you Derrick for your post. My Windows operating system is 8.1, so I am unaware of Windows 10 behaviors, especially related to this application.

Correct me if I misunderstood the question or am wrong altogether, but in my view, the following image shows what I would expect to see for the 7th chord extension of the 6m chord in the key of C Major.

If the community would like the option to view triads or extensions I can implement a feature to select either type.

I should be able to select the Major or Minor chord, only. My evaluation copy does not have that option.

I would expect to only see the notes for whatever chord variation is selected. e.g. for an E minor I would expect to see "E, B, G" only, not other notes.

An application such as this can be helpful, especially for beginners, but needs a few "tweaks".

Thanks Paul. Followed the video and everything downloaded and installed fine. I am running Win-10, btw.

I like the name (i.e., Coolpedent). :D

Being a novice to this instrument, I cannot comment too much on how I will use it as yet. But it appears very well designed. As others have commented already, having just a Major selection seems like a good idea.

Very cool! Thanks again.

Nice work Paul! This is a great tool, and it's very user friendly.

When I ran it before, I didn't have options for Major/Minor chords. Now, running it again it looks like I do. Something to look into, that it works one time and not another.

Jack, thank you for your patience and suggestions. I would like to provide the best tool available using feedback from the community. This application will continue to be developed and expanded upon to meet the community's needs.

Thanks for this Paul. I downloaded it and had no problems. Is there a way to edit the built in copedent? I use a variation of the uni w a B on the bottom instead of a C#. Thanks for your work :) .

Hi Jim, thanks for trying it out. I intend on making an update to allow users to edit the built-in tunings to support such variations. Once that feature is supported, you will be able to accurately input your guitar's copedent. Hopefully I will be able to get that done over the holidays.

Best,

Paul

Hi Paul,

That looks really good. Have you considered starting with Fret 0 (i.e., open) instead of at F1? Just a thought...

I look forward to a closer look when I get more time.

Best,
Jim

Hi Jim, thanks for your interest. I plan on implementing that in the near future as it seems that is the preference of the players on the board.
