Fender Steel King

Does anyone have a Fender Steel King in the Houston, Navasota or surrounding area that I could demo for about 15 minutes? (at your house of course).
I hate going to Guitar Center or any other music store, lugging in my steel, pack seat etc, signing in my gear per their security regulations, trying to find a place to set it up where there are no loud rock guitar want-a-be's wailing away, and then having to explain for 15 minutes what that thing is that I play and how it works.

Doesn't Guitar Center have a 30 day return policy on their gear. That way you could try one for an extended period and see if it's really what your looking for.

As a former and future GC employee, I second that. The beauty of GC's return policy is that you can take something and use it in your own environment and return it if it doesn't work for you. No reason to drag your gear there. I hate listening to gear in a store environment, and I only ever try out guitars just to see if they have any resonance or to get a feel for different pickup sets.
By the way, I am not back working there yet so keep your flamethrowers in their holsters, fellas!

I suppose I could do that. Just thought someone might be close enough so I wouldn'g have to deal with the store environment.

Larry: Just a word about my experience with a Steel King. I read everything I could find about them, decided that's what I wanted and ordered one. Unpacked it when it came in and hooked it up, all excited. Set it on the factory suggested settings. My heart sank--That was one of the worse tones I had ever heard! I tried every different setting I could think of. After about an hour or two, disgusted, I turned it off. The next day I tried it again. Unbelievable! That thing was pumping out one of the most beautiful deep mellow tones I had ever heard! Since that time, I've heard that some amps require a breaking-in period. Fender should pack a warning label with the amp! If we lived a little closer, I would be glad to let you try mine.

I have a fender steel king and it's absolutely the best amplifier I have ever owned. You can dial up just about any sound you want and it has power to burn. I have had people in the audience tell me how great I sounded. It sounds a lot like it has tubes. Great amplifier!!!!!!

I've read a lot of posts on the forum about the SK. As with any piece of eqpt, some like it and some don't. Guess I'll make a trip to GC and get one. If it don't work out within a couple of days then I'll take it back.

Larry, I think Ronnie Vaughn has one he might let you try. He's here in College Station, though I'm not sure if he's listed. J.C.

Larry R, I was lucky enough to try one out with my rig at a local steelers house, I was and am impressed with the FSK. I'm still kinda broke from just puchasing my Clark D10 but as soon as finaces warrant, I will own a FSK.
I hope you get to try one out, I think you'll like it.

You guys actually have FSK amps at guitar center? Not here in New Orleans, even pre-Katrina. They never even knew it existed.

The GC that I visited this week knew about it but did not have it in stock. GC will order it but the customer has to prepay for it.
