Desert Rose, GFI, any others?

hello
i am possibly the newest member to the forum, although i have been lurking around for the past couple weeks. i am excited to see there are fellow rhode islanders here!

i am relatively new to the psg and i'm looking for my first "quality" pedal steel. i currently own a very tempermental '52 fender single 8, but it's technical issues make it frustrating to learn on. so...i'm moving on up.

i would like some sort of S10. i have my eye on the Desert Rose student/semi pro model and the GFI student model. i'd love to buy a used higher end guitar, but am not looking to break the $1000 price range. i have been playimg guitar and banjo for years and am used to spending money on quality and i'd like to buy something that i will want to hang on to, even if i upgrade in the future.

any suggestions on a quality guitar new or used? any experiences with the Desert Rose or GFI students? anyone out there selling something that might be appropriate? any input is much appreciated.

thanks, derek.

Welcome Derek,
I started PSG about a year ago at age 61 and am enjoying it very much. I bought a GFI Student model, 3/4, and love it. It has good tone and stays in tune. I have had no problems at all. Good luck with what ever you choose.

Hi Derek,

Have you checked out the Carter Starter? A Sweet One. Shop for prices. I think the lowest I've seen is $695.

GFI without a doubt is my vote! Man these guitars rock, from the D-10 to the student model, they are all built with the same qulity... As a matter a fact i played a GFI student model on the Hall of Fame Show in ST.Louis this year, and got fantasic replies on the tone.. and it played great... Anybody on here remember seeing this guitar?

Desert Rose offers a student model good enough to do pro jobs at a very reasonable price. The service is conscientious and competent. And, a big plus is, Chuck will take your student model Desert Rose guitar back on a new pro model when you want to upgrade. He makes some beautiful guitars and pays special attention to every one of them.

The Desert Rose guitar is definitely a good place to look when considering a great guitar for a good price. The new pro models Chuck makes are custom guitars made to your specs with some of the best select woods. These are well thought out guitars that play and sound "Real Good!"

The student model Desert Rose that was at the SWSGA Jam over this last weekend was
pretty impressive...best student model that I've seen.
With the trade in deal, it would be my choice for sure.

Derek, the Desert Rose Guitar is an excellent choice, Chuck makes his to pro quality, you could add more knee levers to his if you wanted to, or pedals even, and for the price you can not beat it, give Chuck a call, GFI is another good choice excellent sound. steveb.

Hi there Desert Rose is my choice by far. I am the guy that had the student model at the jam in Mesa. I have had several good players tell me that the Desert Rose Student model is as high quality as other pro models. The tone is great. They are all wood neck and wood body with mica on the out side.

Need more info I was in the Desert Rose shop yesterday.
