I am starting to see the limitations of my double raise/lower U12 and need to move up to a triple. What can I expect to pay for a solid used instrument? I would love to stick with MSA but I'm open to suggestions.
thanks for your help,

Todd, a uni definitely needs a three-raise/three-lower changer. I bought a good used Fessenden uni (5&6) for $2000 about a year ago, and when it got stolen I got a used Zum uni (7&5) for a little more than that (it was definitely worth the extra). I would advise getting something that is still in production, so parts will not be a problem. Part of the fun of a uni is to experiment with the copedent. You can put as many pedals and levers as you want on it, but you only have two knees and two feet to use at any one time. So you have to find the usable knees and pedals that work best for the kind of music you play. Many unis do not have the E9 pulls on the extra three strings at the bottom. At a minimum, I would advise adding those. |

Actually you can change a double raise/double lower to a triple raise/single lower fairly easily on most any string independently (ie.-the 4th on a universal) doing away with the need of having to get a different guitar or changer. I'm not aware of needing a double lower for the 4th string in a Universal setting. |

Todd-There are many ways to put a triple R/L on an MSA s12. Do a Search on the Forum and you will find it.
If you want to keep playing an MSA , there are many used U12s with triple raise and lower on them and parts are fairly easy to get........al
