Paul Franklin

Paul has done so many good ones , a few years back he wrote a song called, "Maria"; we know why he wrote it. He did this some time back and he did this on a Dobro; I thought is was great,
Paul was working on a cd, and I thought that this would be a great song, but I don't believe that he ever got around to doing it.
Maybe he will do this one day...........

I love his playing on all of Rodney Crowell's "Diamonds and Dirt", but especially "She Crazy for Leaving" and their cover of Buck's "Above and Beyond".

I have always loved the signature lick he does on George Strait's "Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her". Usta play it with my band, then he showed me how he did it at the Armonk convention back in the late 80s. Sounded a lot better when I started doing it the RIGHT way..

Also like his solo on Alan Jackson's "Farewell Party".
A couple D-10s,some vintage guitars & amps, & lotsa junk in the gig bag.

His steel solo on George Strait's "One Night At A Time", his intro and solo on Keith Urban's song, "But For The Grace Of God, the intro, steel work on Trace Adkins' "This Ain't No Thinkin' Thing", his steel work on John Michael Montgomery's song "Cover You In Kisses, his steel on Lee Ann Womack's song, "Montgomery To Memphis", and his solo on George Strait's song, "What Do You Say To That", and of course, his steel on Vince Gill's "When I Call Your Name" and "Never Knew Lonely"

I know my favorite of Paul's is the fade-out solo on George Strait's "Ain't Never Seen No One Like You" ('Blue Clear Sky' album). That is THE song that made me want to play C6.

Listen closely to the Pedabro in Mary Chapin Carpenter's version of "The Bug" and catch the subtle harmonic after "Everything can change in the blink of an eye"- always knocked me out~~

I don't rate songs, musicians or anything else musical, and I enjoy all of Paul's work.

A few of my favorite PF things that come immediately to mind are Something Special solo, fills on the chorus of I Want To Dance With You, [both by George Strait.], everything he did on Brent Mason's CD and the Shania Twain records but there's too much to try and categorize. I just enjoy listening to it all.

There are countless examples of Paul's brilliance in the beginning, middle, and endings of songs, but one particular favorite is how he comes out of nowhere to finish Marty Stuart's "Western Girls."

No worries, Jerry, there's no scientific basis for any of this. We were just asked to express our personal favorites here. :)

PF's CD The Christmas Collection is outstanding! Not sure where/how/if it's available anymore but worth searching for. I always remember to play it at least twice a year, typically December and July :D

I heard George Straights fireman song tonight on Prime Country.
It sounds like Paul's style. Really cool licks in it.

Lee Ann Womack had a song on her "I Hope You Dance" record called "Lonely Too" that featured a great steel solo that Paul did, and another one that comes to mind is, his solo on Rodney Crowell's "I Couldn't Leave You If I Tried".
