Boss GT3

Does anyone have some good settings for this?

I had one a while ago. Couldn't get any sounds I really liked out of it, though - neither for my steel nor for my Telecaster.

I use my GT-5 by turning off amp modelling and cabinet simulation and eq, and use it as a collection of effects pedals.

I have a Boss gt3 and cannot get the sound I want. Can anyone explain what tubefex profex and trans profex do. Are these what the big names use? Do I need one of these. By the way I still us a goodrich pedal. Could that be the reason? brian

I think the key for these units is that the signal should pass thru some of the effects before it goes to the volume pedal, and thru other effects after the volume pedal. So the way you hook up your cables can make a big difference.
Before the volume pedal should be : compression, level-driven wah etc, overdrive, distorion, amp modeling. Even if you don't use any of these, it usually sounds good to go thru an amp stage (buffer amp) before the volume pedal.
After the pedal can be EQ, and all the chorus, delay, reverb,etc.

The one I use is the old Boss GX-700 (thanks to Dan Tyack for suggesting this one) which is pretty much the same as GT-3, GT-5, Roland GT-100 etc. These units provide an effects loop where you can put the volume pedal. The ordering (sequence) of effects and volume pedal is completely user-selectable but I find the default is usually right. As for units from other manufacturers, if they don't let you put the volume pedal where you want it in the signal path, I would either avoid that unit, or get two separate boxes for before and after the volume pedal.

I find GX-700 and GT-100 are better for steel players because they are rackmount units that I can hang off the right end of the steel guitar. The cable from my pickup is only a few inches long. GT3 etc are floor units which is a problem for steel players.
