Howard guitars were made by Tom McCormick in the Dallas area (Irving?) in the 60's and 70's. I don't know of any after the 1970's but there could be some. I believe Tom passed away a few years ago.

Howard guitars were made by Tom McCormick. He was an inventor and innovator when it came to pedal steels. I worked on a few of his guitars in the mid 70's. One I really enjoyed setting up was a single 12 string that had a tuning lever underneath so you could change from a E to a C or A tuning. Most of his guitars used cables instead of rods. As far as I remember he designed and built all of changers, pickups and hardware as well as doing the cabinet work.
Since Tom was such an inventor, every guitar was different and most of the parts would not interchange. (There are still some builders that do that today.)
I met him at some guitar shows in the late 60's and early 70's. I doubt that he is still alive. Am not aware if anyone tried to produce his guitars.
There are probably still some Howard guitars out there being played. The guitars were very nicely made and had a great sound.

Thanks, Russ. Brings back memories. My first guitar was a Howard with 3 pedals and 2 knees. Bob Tuttle sold it to my parents and then gave me lessons.
