I've been playing a mid 70's pro 111 custom for the last three years and believed it to be the best sounding guitar of all I've had. Last week I purchased a '70 laquer p/p with aluminum necks and now I know I own the two best sounding guitars I've ever had. These are not the 1st of each brand but the 4th of each, and tone-wise outshines all the others. Which sounds better, I don't know. The p/p has better string separation, the Bud has sweeter highs up in Hugheyland. I'm a happy camper and proud of both. I don't know about other players, but to me the right tone makes it easier for me to play than just pedal action. Am curious to see if anyone else feels this way.
