Jimmy Hammers ......... went to be with our Lord

Post by Danny Hammers »

I lost one of my best friends. My cousin Jimmy Hammers a great lead guitarist. Jimmy went to be with our Lord on June 23, at 4:30am. On Oct 15, 2016, he would have been 95. As bad as he felt, he still put out his big garden this year, keep his yard mowed, and played music. I am going to miss him so much.
A lot of you would remember him from playing in the Ole Derby Room at the International Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis a few years back, he was 90 then.
Jimmy and his brothers, Milton and Johnny were well known in the music business and lived in Evansville IN. but being from Muhlenberg County Kentucky and well known in Nashville back in the day. Johnny is in The International Thumb Pickers Hall of Fame.

Jim is survived by his wife, Ann; sisters, Grace Dukes, of Evansville, and Evelyn Luchau, of California; son, Roger (Kathy) Hammers, of Woodlawn, Tenn.; daughter, Doris (Danny) Rutledge, of Evansville; stepchildren, Robert and Roger (Terri) Heyna and Lvonne (Tim) Bennett, of Evansville, Cheryl (Chad) Johnson and Bethel (Lori) Nichols, of Tennyson, Ind.; several grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
