Carl Perkins Match Box Intro

Has anyone figured out how to play the intro to Carl Perkins Matchbox on E9th neck. Most six string guitar players think they can play it, but they can't. I am only interested in the first "chord" of the intro. This first cord sets the rhythm--and groove. The groove is what makes this song. There should be a way to play it on E9th. Help?
