Chromatic Tuner for Lap Steel Guitar

Post by Stefan Robertson »

Hey All

As we all know (or if we don't) Lap Steel Guitar in a band situation never sounds in tune using Equal temperament tuning. i.e. using an electric tuner at A=440

So I am thinking about buying a Peterson Stroboclip as everyone seems to be raving about its accuracy down to 1/10th of a cent.

So How best once I get a tuner should I decide how many cents # or b I should tune each string.

i.e. Play a Major 7 Chord on a MIDI keyboard and try and match each note perfectly. Until it stops beating.

Then record how many cents its set at and go from there.

I have this one. Works great, and has auto shut off.

The great thing about the new Peterson is that you can create you own sweetened tuning. This is what I would do if I were you.

For a few bucks, I got PitchLab Pro for my android phone. It's worked great for all my guitars. It uses the phone's mic, which can be a problem in noisy environments. You can make a cable to connect your guitar to the headphone jack of your phone, which is what I've done.

Great for home use. Maybe not the best for gigging.

I use the Peterson iStrobo Soft app for my phone. I find it extremely versatile and accurate. And I can see it...

I have one of these. I have three different sweetened tunings programmed. I love it.
