I use a pair of Celestion Vintage 30 in my original 1965 Blackfaced Twin. Not a super light speaker but a very nice vibe.
Also, these Celestion speakers are Ipswitch, English made and not the Chinese imports. |

The modern neo steel-friendly neodymium speakers are VERY good. But they're not budget-friendly unless you find them used. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

When speaker shopping, compare the frequency specs of the speakers you want to the ones you have currently. That's what I did when I bought the Jensen neo 15-300 @8ohms. None of the current "steel" speakers are 8 ohm that I know of. I don't know about the double t 12 that eminence offers,as I was only exploring 15's. _________________ D.S. Rigsby |

The Eminence TT speakers would be some to look at. Neo magnets, made for steel, 8 ohms. |

Sica aluminum frame neo bass speakers are a good choice. Currently using one in a 12" cab and am well pleased with the tone. Ken Fox used the 15" version in his steel amps. They are available from Antique Electronic Supply..FYI: The new Eminence Travis Toy (TT-112) and the Telonics neo are available in 8-Ohm also but both are priced around 80% higher than the Sicas. |

Anything steel guitar specific is super pricey. _________________ D.S. Rigsby |

you'll cut a lot more weight by replacing the cabinet with pine than by replacing the speakers.
The plywood cabinets used for the later Twin Reverbs is very heavy! You can shed at least 10 pounds in cabinet alone and keep the speakers you have _________________ Milkmansound.com |

Get a 1x12 cabinet with a single 4ohm speaker in it.
Take the speakers out of the amp.
Much better. You can keep the amp controls at arms reach, and put the speaker cab wherever it needs to be behind you. |

That Benson twin looks interesting. 50 pounds, very light for a twin. That's about 15 lbs lighter than my '67.
It also has a 12AY7 tube in (I presume) the 1st preamp stage. Seems like a good choice for steels, with their relatively high-output pickups.
I've read good things about the Jensen neo 12" speakers. I bought a used one a while back but have not tried it yet. I did hear Bill Kirchen play a Tele through one a couple of weeks ago in a silverface Deluxe Reverb and it sounded real nice. |

I have two, 12-100-8 ohm Jensen Neo speakers and They are very clean sounding if that is what you are looking for. I use mine for both steel and guitar and they work for me but they stopped making them and they are hard to find. |
