.......I can leave my damn shoes on!!
With these fat dogs of mine, I STILL can't figure out what footwear I can keep on and still work the pedals. So far, the only thing that works for my left foot is socks.
I mean, I know my foot will be mostly hidden on-stage, but my playing will be stinkin' up the bandstand ENOUGH, without that adding to it!!

Decide on one style of footwear and stick with it. It becomes irrelevant after about 6 months

You need to get you a pair of these genuine Woose moccasins, but you'd better move fast. They've just been placed on the endangered species list.

One thing I prefer about lap steel over pedal steel is that I don't have to bite my tongue when someone (could be band member, sound guy, someone in the audience)says "nice lap steel, maate"

I literally just started playing pedal steel, but can't see how guys can play without does on! It's way easier to press the A and B pedals at the same, release one while keeping the other down, etc. with shoes on. Cant do it just in my socks!

While they are super comfortable, I'm embarrassed to admit I wear them, and can confidently report.....
Crocs do NOT work well.

Scott, it depends on what you're used to.
Hank Ruf does quite well in stocking feet, as do some others.

My favorite way to play is barefoot. I used to be very particular about what shoes I could wear, but a few years ago needed to wear Cowboy Boots for stage wear. Boy was that hard. For 6 months, I could count on at least one boot-related screw up a night.
I want to feel those pedals, and be able to mold those changes... of course, I've played a few steel guitars through the years that you couldn't mash down pedals with steel-toe boots!
To each their own!
