I would like to know what compressor he used on his CD song "The Lighthouse Tale". It was very smooth, did not pop when attacked but kept the notes alive when he would rest on one.

Maybe you could call him and ask him etc. Thanks in advance.

From what I've seen of Gary's abilities, I wouldn't be surprised if he was able to maintain that much control of his sound. His mastery is just awe inspiring. I've heard accomplished players hold notes for very long periods of time with just their volume pedal.

I'd be very surprised if he uses one. I hope he answers because I'd like him to comment on why he was never in the mix on many of the Marty Stewart Shows. It sounded like he was being picked up through the drum mic's.

Marty and the others were always right in your face.

Larry:
Looks like he is using a Telonics TCA- 500 amp on his videos. I don't think he is using a compressor. Very neat and tragic tune. Gary puts a great twist on it and Marty wasn't bad either. If you don't have it the backing track is great!

I don't know if he uses a compressor or not. Would'nt be surprised if he didn't.
Check out his version of Shenandoah on The Big E Tribute record.
If you can, through some good speakers with some volume.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CRAZY Good.

Not meaning to be a smartass, but I think that's why we use a volume pedal.

Donny no problem, is sounds to me like the something a compressor also does but smoother than most units. Maybe he really is that good with the volume pedal, it would not surprise me, he is just a killer player.

I just got it straight from Gary...the only thing he used on the CD (and the only thing he uses on stage) is his Telonics amp - no boxes, gimmicks, or add-ons. Gary really is a world class player (I'd personally put him in the "top 5") and it shows in everything he does! Very Happy

Last night on my Zoom MS50G I turned on the Opti Comp compressor patch. Wow this may be what I have been looking for. I played really hard and the comp did not let me down, sustain for days. The lead singer thought it was the best I have sounded in the year we have worked together.

My sound was also fatter without being bass heavey.
