Has anybody done this and if so -- How?
Also, I want to put it on an SD card to put on another computer that doesn't have internet access.

I use basic recording software, like I record my own music with. Normally either Acoustica (pay) or Audacity (free). I open both my browser (for Youtube) and my recording software at the same time, resizing each to half-screen.

I use a short 1/8" to 1/8" cable, running OUT of my headphone jack and INTO my microphone jack.

I click PLAY on Youtube, and RECORD on Acoustica/Audacity. Then save as an MP3.

There's a great online conversion/downloading option at "YouTube to mp3 Conversion.org". Just bookmark it and you can grab any youtube audio file. I use it all the time with a program called Transcribe to slow down and/or change keys. Has been the best way for me to work out difficult passages/licks.

If I understand you - You plug your computer into the same computer and record from Headphone to microphone jacks - YouTube to Audacity - Stereo cord or mono??
Don't want to blow up the computer!!!

Is that step necessary? I just use Audacity and select "Stereo Mix" as the source. Then Audacity will record anything coming out the speakers. No external cables necessary.

No cords or recording software needed if you use one of the online convertor links that have been posted. Here is the one I usually use.

If you use Firefox there are several plugins that just add a download button at the bottom of the youtube video player. Just click and select the format you want (complete video or audio only) and it will save the file to pre-selected folder. Easy peasy.I expect there are similar plugins for Chrome, Safari, etc. but I've never used them.

There is anther add on for Firefox called YouTube Mp3 that add a MP3 button on screen just under the video. Works really well.

I've been using a program for years called Video Download Helper, it allows you to download the videos from YouTube and many other sites with hidden embedded audio/video, it's just a simple plugin for Chrome or Firefox and it gives you the option to download audio or video. I've also used a program as of lately on my mobile devices called TubeMate, works great on the go,also supports multiple sites not just YouTube.

I started out using Acoustica, years before I'd heard of Audacity. I used the cord with Acoustica, and just continued doing it the same way with Audacity. I didn't realize it wasn't necessary. :whoa:

No explosion fears.
The sound (SIGNAL) simply comes out the headphone jack and into the mic jack.

From reading these other responses, I now see there are much simpler ways to accomplish the same result.
