I have an old PP and would like to change fretboards. Is this something a non guitar mechanic could do? Would someone please walk me through the steps? |

Billy, Carter steel guitars has a site on their website that describes how to go about removing the old and adding new fretboard. steveb. |

Hair dryer or paint stripper, old 3rd string as a joint splitter and some thin cardboard or stiff paper to follow the wire lead and keep the fretboard and neck from reuniting. Using the 0.011 - 0.012 string instead of a spackling tool will prevent you from bending the old fretboard. |

Billy, Try putting a towel over the fretboard and place a clothes iron on it. This will heat the glue, and if you are careful it won't ruin the fretboard. As earlier stated use a string under it to lift. Or maybe a small putty knife to get it started. |

OK,,,,,,now you have them off. The challenge now is to get the new fret boards on in the right position. I have 2 guitars and they were both positioned wrong from the manufacturer. Lay the new boards loosely first to insure they are in the right place. Then attach them permanently.
