Hey steel guitar fans,

As you may have heard, the SWSGA held its 13th Annual Steel Guitar Show in Phoenix this past weekend. I am happy to report that photos from that show are now available on the association web site:

http://www.swsteelguitar.com/2016Show/

Thanks to Billy Easton and the board for all the hard work, the artists for making it wonderful, the contributors & vendors for making it feasible and the volunteers for making it all smooth sailing. As a fan myself, I thought the show was another incredible chapter in a long list of successes for this excellent show and convention.

Thanks also to Bill Tauson, my mentor, friend and another poor soul afflicted with the shutterbug disease. Between Bill and I, we tried to capture it all, but there is just so much that we surely missed some. If that was you, we extend our apologies and will try harder to shoot you next year.

We hope you enjoy the photos and look forward to seeing you all (again) at the next show.

Guy and Bill......You guys amaze me!
You work your tails off for long hours at
these shows and give us these beautiful gifts.
The way you captured the true essence of each of these
people blows me away.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart (And Darcie's too!) for helping to preserve the memories of these
great shows.

Thank you Darrell, you are too kind. Bill and I set a goal this year to add more personality to our photos. We wanted to try to capture artists smiling, laughing or making "musician face" (think Tommy Dodd . . . love that guy!). To that end, your photo is one of my favorites -- looks like you almost fell out of your chair!

The negative to this approach is that many artist are concentrating so hard while playing that they will not show any emotion unless they are between songs. Some folks may prefer the "caught in the act of playing" shot (even if very stoic), while others may prefer the "smiling and laughing after the song is over" shot. We shall see what feedback we get.

You and Darcie are always a welcome sight at any of our shows/jams. Your smiles, good natures and musicianship are infectious. Sorry the lounge was foolish enough to pay for live acts while our show was going on. Was looking forward to seeing Darcie "slappin' da bass mon" (oh, you too, of course). Wink

BTW: did you spot the subliminal game show reference in my original post?

Take care and we'll see you at the next hoedown or hootenanny.

You got me on the game show reference Guy! Totally missed it. We don't watch much TV I'm afraid.

Darcie and I noticed the difference in the style of the photos this year right away, and we really like it. It added an extra dimension to the high standard that you and Bill always obtain. They are very captivating.

Thanks for the kind words for Darcie and me. We really love this club, and this show, and you and Bill are two big reasons why it's so neat. I thought about doing the "Carl and Donny Johnson Memorial Honky Tonk Lounge Hour" again but it just didn't seem right without them. Management wanted us to do it and only called in the outside entertainment when we declined. Maybe we can resume the tradition next year.

All great photos, Guy! Why, it makes it seem that playing pedal steel is actually a fun thing to do instead of the psychological compulsion it really is. Wink

Great job, Guy and Bill!! I enjoy these photos as much as anyone. A visual history of what a great time we had. I know it is a lot of work, but like most of us, it is a labor of what we love to do. Thanks for all you do for the SWSGA and the steel guitar community.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Stu: that means a lot coming from such a great shutterbug like yourself.

Jim: I love it! As a hobbyist, I know there is a fine line between hobby and mental illness. As an artist, I suspect it might just be worse! Wink

Fred and Billy: again thanks. Bill and I put in about a week of hard work every year so our efforts are merely a drop in the bucket compared to the hard work (many years worth in most cases) that all the artists put in to sound so good for our show. We are honored to be allowed to do what we love, while listening to what we love, from many of our personal heroes . . . and in the process, simply try to contribute however we can to the overall experience.

You guys all had excellent sets (again) this year! Can't wait to hear you again at the next show/jam!

Darrell -- the answer: Hollywood Squares.

I went to assemble a collage for this post and typically you want everyone facing inward. So I did just that.

When I got done it struck me as familiar. On that game show, often a celebrity will crack a funny one and all the other panelists will turn in their direction. Here it looks like Jay told a real knee-slapper and everyone turned his way.

It was not intentional, but by the time I noticed, I was too tired to try a different collage. So it stands.

This concludes the stupid trivia for this thread. Smile

Mike...
It is possible that these may be available. In the past, we have produced a "compilation" DVD with selected players and songs. Our technical production crew are presently working on such a project. If it indeed becomes a reality, I will post on the Forum when and where it is available.

Kudos to Guy Beaver and Bill Tauson for their excellent work and dedication. They make sure that one of them is working nearly every minute of the show to bring us these fantastic shots...and they still have the time to give someone like myself a few pointers. Tremendous work!
