My new Encore arrived today, and I am surely pleased! It is black, 4 pedals, 5 knees, and Doug's humbucker. Forty-two pounds in the case. It is very well-built, and it plays and sounds great--nicely balanced across the strings, and great note separation and sustain.
It's a good-looking guitar, too--not all the fancy cosmetics of much more expensive guitars, but it looks good. You will not find more bang for your buck in a new steel.
I didn't have to wait long for delivery, either.

Thanks, Doug Earnest, for building me this nice steel!

David, I first emailed Doug in early October about ordering. He shipped the guitar on December 31st. He did initially say to expect it in February, but things got moved up. Email Doug and he'll give you an idea. If you order one, I'm sure you will be happy with it!

I'm in the queue after emailing with Doug last week and he estimated late March or early April for me! Very Happy
That's for an Encore. Stage One was a bit longer which suggests to me that he's starting to see more Encore than Stage One orders, although that's just my idle speculation. I'm sure he'll post his own response soon....

the only draw back to Dougs guitars is that he doesn't make an SD version of them
if he did THEN they would be damn near perfect ...lol

I understand some folks' preference for an SD10, but I actually wanted an S-10.
I'm having no issues with knee lever placement, etc., The guitar is easy to play, and I love the light weight.
In spite of the narrower body and light weight, the guitar doesn't walk around when you press knee levers (even levers with 3 pulls on them).

I agree, Jeff, and I remain convinced that an S-10 is better for one's playing and general 'form' than an SD-10. There's a temptation with the SD-10 (or a D-10) to acquire a lazy right arm and wrist that rests on the back neck with the result that execution is impaired.

Doug offered me the optional detachable back-rest but I'm glad I declined it.

The fourth pedal on this one (pedal 0) is a Franklin pedal, correct?

Yes, that is the Franklin change. I have that on my zero pedal now (I was considering Randy Beavers' idea of lowering 6 and 9 a half, and I may put that on this pedal). I use a .022 wound sixth string, and the whole-tone lower on 6 works perfectly. Not all guitars will do that.

I have the zero pedal in the first position. I would think with it in fourth it would put the A
& B petals too far left for good action with the left leg levers. I have the pad and love it.

Cool. I really like the sound of the Franklin change so I'm thinking I'll probably want to add it when my turn comes. Very Happy

the reason the i like an SD better is that it make's my right hand steadier, i don't think my left arm ever touch's the pad

I helped build this guitar. I've been working for Doug almost a year now. I think these are wonderful guitars for the money. Doug stays pretty focused on what he's currently building because of the affordability and being able to build these guitars in a timely manner. Doug does an excellent job and I as well try to pay attention to detail so you can get the best quality for your money. I hope you get much enjoyment from this guitar.
