Finally found perfect setup

Well if you love the tube sound but don't have 2,000 to spend and don't want to lug around 75 lbs. and need a lot of headroom I finally found the perfect sound weight and price. I just picked up brand new fender bassman 59 reissue and it sounds magnificent. 53 lbs and 50 watts of power.

Had one of those for almost 20 years now, and I love it!
...even more with a retrofitted tube rectifier..

years back when I was a Nascar fan I recall Bill Elliott was running very well in a race, they had him live on the broadcast and he said his car was perfect .

he hit the wall a few laps later !

I used to hear that all the time from pickers in Nashville. This guitar, pickup, strings, amp or whatever, is the greatest. Next month they are on to something else the greatest.

But that 59 Bassman is a great amp. I had one back in about 60 or 61. Blonde with 4 10" speakers. Played my Chet Atkins Gretsch through it.

I wouldn't say my '59 Bassman is perfect, because I haven't compared it to the high end boutique offerings. It sounds pretty sweet, though. I've compared it to my NV112, Blues Jr., Roland 80xl, etc. It has the tone that makes me happy. If it ever dies beyond repair, I'll be looking for another one. Definately a keeper.

That's awesome. Often times the best solutions are to stop recreating the wheel, and buy what you like the sound of, instead of something that "sounds like it".

I heard a band on New Years Eve that had a Tele player that had one of the best sounds I have ever heard on a Tele. I could see on stage that his amp was a rather large tweed Fender of some sort. At the first break I complimented his sound and quizzed him about the amp. He said it was a 57 re-issue Bassman. I asked what he was running for reverb or delay. He said he was not running any effects at all. Amazing sound with just the amp and Tele. I would love to hear one with a steel. What I heard lends a lot of credibility to what you are saying about the 59 re-issue you are using.

KISS....Keep It Simple Stupid certainly applies here.

BTW I have a Carvin BX 500 which is also a Bass Amp and it is a great amp for steel. I remember that Tom Brumley used a Fender bass amp of some kind on a lot of recordings.

Tom Brumley played his 11-string Mullen and Anapeg guitars through Bassman re-issues and JBLs on the IN TIME album. Sweetest thing I ever heard.

I have a Victoria bassman style amp that I love but I have never been able to dial my pedal steel in quite right on that thing. Something about those 10" speakers doesn't jive with my setup. But it sounds like you've hit the tone jackpot my friend! At least for the time being! Relish it while it lasts!

Scott, since it is a new amp, I assume it has Fender stock speakers, right? When I bought my Twin in the late 60's, you could order them with either JBL's or Fender Speakers. Don't know if this is an option anymore. JBL's would be nice but would weigh a ton. Neo would lessen the weight considering it has 4 speakers. BUT...if the Fender stock speakers sound good, no reason to mess with it.

Since it is a bass amp, I am assuming that it is a closed back cabinet,right? Are you running any outboard effects?

They come standard with re-issue Fender Alnico speakers...and no, it is an open back cabinet.
