You steelers gotta check this out. I perfectly realize this is the SGF. However, because I am first a pedal steel player, the Dobro style reso guitar has always frustrated me. Jackson Steel has been working on this for a little while. You will see videos of this evolving process. This is not the first time we have put hand pedals and even floor pedals on a reso. However, this version here is on a Gibson Phil Leadbetter brand. In other words, a very fine instrument. Secondly, the unit has been very well refined and quite honestly is just an outstanding piece of engineering, as you will see demonstrated on this video. Most of all though, and listen up pedalers, this makes the whole skill set and thinking of us steelers come to life behind this reso with pedal. Be sure to watch the lever use on this video. It's almost constant and I can use it in a down (think pedals down) position. I will tell you all more about tuning and such later on. That's also still an evolving process but should be done soon.

To borrow from Shakespeare, "what's in a name?" A dobro is still a member of the steel guitar family, correct?

I'm sort of on the fence about this device, but I'd like to learn more.

I realize Zane that this is sort of a quick video, and you didn't utilize some of the "production values" as in a number of your other efforts, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt - right off it sounds kind of thin to me.

I don't know if that is due to the device, the recording equipment, or the guitar. There were some nice Gibson/Dobro Leadbetter models, and some others weren't so great - a lot of inconsistency. And now you can't even buy a new American made guitar with the name Dobro on the headstock, but that's a subject for another thread.

There is definitely potential in this thing, I'm looking forward to the continued evolution and will stay tuned.

Zane,

Nice.

Like the way you think outside the box on these instruments.

Developing an instrument requires thinking 'outside the box.' Some people don't know what to think. Fewer still post.
Bravery is rewarded. Regrets are short-lived. I didn't hear any reason for one.

The hand lever looked smooth and the accompanying sound was smooth too--not thin at all to my ears, and Dobro certainly belongs here.
Good idea, good performance. One can easily appreciate your devotion to steel guitar.
And a Merry Christmas to you. Hope you keep inspiring us.
