On the cover photo of the Buddy Emmons compilation CD "Amazing Steel Guitar", theres a picture of him playing and theres a
weird-looking gizmo on the changer of his guitar. It looks like a pair of jump leads for kick starting a car battery. Is this some kind of wrist lever ? Why does it have wires trailing from it ? If I get one of these can I play like him ? |

The weird gizmo is the "Emmons String Machine"! It had 3 pickups that swung out over the strings and with built in fuzz-tone it was used to get a string section sound.

ps - Even if you had 2 of them, I doubt that it would make "anyone" play like "E"!!!

Mick...you might wanna ask Gerry Hogan to show you his "Fiddlers 3" machine sometime. It's the only one I've ever seen. I think it's similar to the gizmo youre talking about. I think Gerry keeps it in a box in his storage shed. Definitely old technology. |

Thanks - that explains the 'arm' that sticks out - presumably thats how the 'gizmo' was engaged.
I've seen Gerry play a few times - minus gizmo though. If I make it to his convention this year I'll make a point of asking him about it |
