i think it was herb s. that mentioned there is a stairway to heaven and a highway to hell. traffic obviously flowing more on the highway.

so i've started this song with possibly the chorus. i was hoping everyone else would contribute and we'll all get rich!
of course herb, b0b and i get 33% off the top.

___Love or Desire___

There's a stairway to heaven
and a highway to hell
They start at the crossroads
we all know so well

The path that you choose
can be hard to tell
If you're blinded by love or desire

It can take you a lifetime
to get to the top
But the slippery slope
to the bottom won't stop

And you can be certain
That after the drop
You'll be stuck in the muck and the mire

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Why, yes, I would be pleased to share that 33% with you, b0b and Herb. Thanks for asking. Wink)
Will you know where you are
as your vision comes clear (?),
Where the Sun does not shine
All is darkness and fear,
And you look for the exit,
Can you rise from the fall,
The words come in a whisper as your soul catches fire.
(Ya may need the chorus here) Awfully ugly verse IMO, give my cut to Jim...
The streets are all one way
You can't turn around
So head for the runway
that's heavenly bound
On gossamer wings
With nary a sound
And away from the brimstone and fire
No, we should get a copyright agent. And quick! Smile
Actually, we should have a Fo'Bro now set it to music. Then we'll make a little demo and shop it around. All proceeds go to the SGF. What say you, Chris?
The 4 lane to destruction
Is paved with broken dreams
It's fast, it's fun, it's reckless
But nothing's as it seems
Get closer, there's no exits
No one can hear your screams
No charge to take the on-ramp but it's Hell to get off.
You guys are seriously good. 'If you're blinded by love or desire.' The end rhyme of each verse/chorus is the hook, different each time.
I'd say it needs more but I'd just be a liar.
There's a stairway to heaven
and a highway to hell
They start at the crossroads
we all know so well
The path that you choose
can be hard to tell
If you're blinded by love or desire
The streets are all one way
You can't turn around
So head for the runway
that's heavenly bound
On gossamer wings
With nary a sound
And away from the brimstone and fire
It can take you a lifetime
to get to the top
But the slippery slope
to the bottom won't stop
And you can be certain
That after the drop
You'll be stuck in the muck and the mire
If you're blinded by love or desire.
Now THAT is an EXCELLENT set of lyrics! I'm serious. And, seriously, I think someone should set it to music and then we should pitch it, with proceeds to support the Forum...
And now that the first one is of a righteous bent, let's do another, about drunken carousing and debauchery! (If we can remember back to those days! Laughing)
OK, Mike. Who are the closest thing to a modern day Louvin Brothers?
Actually I had these guys in my ears while reading the lyrics, from another topic. just didn't delete my post fast enough Darby & Tarlton.
It's not the Louvin Brothers, but from farther back in the mountains and in time.
How about 'Chris and Jim?' The Spandex Brothers?
Chris, you and I might make a good songwriting team. You come up with the idea and kick it off in the right direction, and then I'll take the ball and run with it. Heck, we might even succeed!
seriously, jim! i get lots of ideas that end up undeveloped.
this worked out well. thanx to all involved so far...mike, jeff, leo, jim, charlie.
you're all a buncha poets.
sometimes the simplist puzzle pieces fit together naturally.
i like kirchen for the guitar. he could sing it
if bob dylan declines!
i suppose vince and alison k. are busy.
The first verse is pure poetry, gets right down to the crux of an existential theme--and the last line is killer.
The alternate line rhymes really hold it together; it's a natural.
I suspect there may be a melody behind it, subconsciously or otherwise--it flows like there is one waiting to be found--
like those gossamer wings, with nary a sound.... Beautiful stuff.
