A customer of mine came in yesterday and got some parts to upgrade his HUGHEY Steel he bought so he can play it. He can't use his left leg and I have converted a couple Sho-Buds so that every thing is on the right side. I understand this was built by John some 40 years ago.I have never seen it and wonder if anyone knows about them? Ed Naylor Steel Guitar Works.

First steel I ever owned was a Hughey D10. I bought an Emmons not long after that so I sold the Hughey. It was a nice looking guitar but I had extreme string breakage and tuning problems with it. I was so new to steel, I had no idea how to solve any of it. I wish I had it back now because it was my first steel.

I've seen a Slim Rhodes cd which has a picture of the band on the cover, John Hughey is playing a guitar he made himself, looks a lot like a Bigsby/Sho Bud. Btw, he plays a smoking version of "I don't Love Nobody" on that cd.

John used to build steels, and even wound his own pickups in his garage when he lived in Southaven, Ms. --- HJ

I don't know all of the songs that John recorded with Conway using the "Hughey Custom", but if you'll listen to the song, "Next in line" by Conway you can hear Mr. John playing one. Sounds MIGHTY good to me!
