I just bought a couple of those cheap ($39!)Chinese 6-string cases from Musicians' Friend, and while they are a little cheesy, they are a worthwhile step-up from gig bags for a couple of my beloved but cheapo guitars. Here's the question: the tweed covering fabric seems pretty soft, and I am wondering if anyone knows a good treatment to make it more durable. I am thinking of things like canvas tarp treatment, Barbour waxproofing, the stuff that makes Filson Tincloth pants stand up in the corner, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Since no one else has chimed in here, I'm going to recommend that you mask the areas that are not fabric, and then spray the case with clear polyurethane. This will make the fabric moisture and grease proof, and also keep it from wearing out so fast. Back in the "old days" (before vinyl), amps were covered with tweed-type fabric which had been varnished, and then rolled to make it flat and smooth on one side.
