Sho-Bud D-10 - some have called it The Ultimate Sho-Bud

I know I'm going to have seller's remorse but this is too special to keep for myself. I bought this Sho-Bud D-10 while it was being renovated by master machinist and Sho-Bud maven John Coop. His concept was to build a Sho-Bud D-10 as it would have been made if money was no object and each part was hand machined to perfection. Coop really went all out on this steel. All aluminum parts are machined out of billet or made from bar stock (there are no castings in this steel) It took Coop many years to complete this project. If it were a car, you might call it a resto-mod. The Grover keys on string 5 and 6 are not ground down to fit the standard casting. Instead Coop machined the keyhead to accommodate full length key shafts. The workmanship in this is unbelievable and the birdseye maple is gorgeous - especially in person. I'm happy to give more details to any serious interested party. I'd like to get $4400 for it. Shipping to lower 48 only please. Thanks for looking. TC

Very nice TC. I bought lots of parts from Coop, and was a big admirer of his knowledge, and his craftsmanship. I miss talking to him. What's the story on the changer? All of Coop's super fingers I saw, were made to fit the standard Sho-Bud style changer comb.

Bobby,

I'm sure that Coop milled the "changer comb" from a single piece of billet aluminum. If I'm not mistaken, Sho-Bud changer blocks were machined from a casting. Coop told me that castings were known to have imperfections and defects in the metal. That's the reason he wanted to make everything on this steel from billet aluminum.

Ned, It sounds absolutely great to me. Super clear and full without any whiney characteristics. This steel is meant to be played not just part of a collection like it is now. I'm thinking that I might move it to my studio and start to use it on e-sessions. Of course, once I start using it, I will need to keep in in case any of my clients want me to fix or replace parts that were recorded with this guitar. Somebody please buy this great steel before I change my mind about selling it! Reasonable offers will be considered. TC
