This serial number indicates it to be one of the Emmons "BLACK ROCK" Guitars. That's where the "BR" in the number comes from. These were a very short lived, limited production made sometime during the mid to late 70's, and of course they were push-pulls. The Emmons BLACK-ROCK was essentially an upgraded student model. The ones I've seen had the wraparound aluminum endcastings, and aluminum trim strips on the front apron like the pro models, but still had a wood pedal-bar, and only a quarter inch raised wood neck for the fretboard. These guitars were only offered in black or rosewood. I will say this, the ones I've seen played smooth & sounded good. Awhile back I had a chance to bid on one listed on ebay.

I agree with what Nick said exept for the neck.My BlackRock has a timber neck raised about 1/4" off the body.I also had another older one a long time ago and it was identical.I have never seen any other colour but black but then I have only seen two of them.By the way my current one is 185 BR and was bought new in the late 70's.I'm sure someone could shed more light on this interesting model???

You're right Brendan. Come to think of it, the Black Rock's did have a slightly raised wooden neck. Here's a recent ebay of one that sold in Arizona http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3703532303&category=621

I always thought the "Black Rock" was configured like a Sho~Bud LDG (SD10 w/pad and 3p/4k) with the pro-level aluminum neck and telescoping legs. The finish on the ones I saw were black mica. The one one from the e-bay listing looks like it has a "student" type aluminum neck not a wooden one. It also appears to be a single 10 body.

I seem to remember the Emmons catalog advertising them with a photo of Buddy Cage sitting behind one.

Keep on pickin'!
