I'm interested in a clean looking '70 D-1000 and was told by the seller that it's a "Fender Rodgers". Has anyone heard of or know about that partnership??? Thanks! |

There must be a mistake here. It is most likely a "Fender/ShoBud". Do a search on the Forum to find out more about them.

In the '70s when CBS owned Fender, they also owned Rogers drums. Maybe that's the connection? |

I saw that ad, and the seller apparently got the "Rogers" connection from a Fender-Rogers book, or catalog, that was in the case with the steel.
There were no "Fender-Rogers" steels. Like Rhodes, Sunn, Guild, Charvell, and Gretsch, Rogers drums was just another acquisition of the CBS-Fender juggernaut after it's expansion in the mid '60s. |

I heard that Fred Rogers "taped" over the Fender logo and wrote his own name on there... oops, wrong thread...

Here we go again. Rogers drums were owned and distributed by Grossman Music Supply in Ohio. CBS made the aquisition to buy Rogers and its remaining inventory with hope that Fender guitar builders could do as well as those at Rogers who have been doing it for years. The Marketing minds at CBS decided to name Rogers "Fender Percussion"
BUT that never happened the only thing the suits came close to was a Concussion.
Rogers guitars? Fender Drums? Hey not a bad idea from a marketing man who came direct from Purina the company that manufactures Purina Dog Chow,,sounds like a match.
Fender Dog Chow,Rogers Guitars and Fender Drums. It would have been an innovative idea
but it didnt work.
Rogers had one man and one man alone who came
with the Rogers company with the sale of Rogers Drums and related products and that man was the late Ben Strauss and my friend as well. It was Ben who was the Leo Fender of Rogers and was responsible for Buddy and Louis and Ed Shaugnessy for promoting Rogers
drums. Ben was the only person who could put up with Buddys personality.
When I mentioned to Buddy Rich that after Rich meeting one of the suits I brought to Basin Street East that he was a former marketing man for Purina, his comments were
well let him pee on a hydrant and and go and lick his.....and get that jerk the hell out of here, what the hell does this look like a Kennel?
Joe Thompson a Rogers original was the man behind Rogers and Joe was responsible for every thing Rogers produced and designed the
incomparable Rogers Dynasonic snare drum.
Few Fender reps were interested in selling nuts and bolts as they reffered to selling drums and drum parts. Fender was their main interest because Fender was Hot and Rogers was Not.However Rogers Drums was a great product until,,,,,,the tom toms and smoke signals came from the corporate offices of
CBS at 51 West 52nd St in Manhattan "Black Rock as it was affectionatly referred to.
Many resigned when CBS took over the wagon and went on to other things. I was fortunate
enough to have owned a three buttoned suit and wing tip shoes so I flowed with the suits at CBS. A crew cut hair do...no way. I wore hat so I could keep the pigeons from releiveing them selves on me. Those birds knew a CBS guy 100 floors above Manhattan and they had a great aim.
There was NEVER anything that was confirmed that a name change was in the working, and you can just forget that Fender Rogers Steel guitar thing on e bay...never happened.
Could have been a Purina Dog Chow Strat and if your dog liked the strat he could add water and eat it. Gravy Train All Dogs Love It. Buy it at your neighborhood dealer and to the retail dealer who complained that he couldnt sell a Fender guitar or a set of Rogers Drums a 50 Lb bag was offered to the dealer. If the dealer felt he was stuck with the Rogers and or Fender product it was no problem..all he had to do was add water and eat the remaining inventory.
Ever taste a Strat mixed in water? How about
a nice juicy pair of drum sticks that melt in your mouth and not in your hand?.
No Way Never No Rogers Fender steel guitars, ever. Ladies personal Items? maybe, someone designed a new bra at CBS and said it was one of a kind in design, they name the bra
EMBARGO..but dont spell it backwards.
I stayed on with Fender Rogers Rhodes and many times had to eat the Purina, but what they didnt know is my dogs ate Iams. Hey this is showbiz and the show must go on right? WRONG.
Just a bit of what its like to be a dog.
Oh I forgot my dogs name is Roger.he has those knobby legs that are adjustable to reach fire hydrants that are out of reach.
Thanks for your barking up the wrong tree,,but I still never knew what a wrong tree was. My dog never met a tree he didnt like.

Jody
And to think I could have been playing a Checkerboard Telecaster.
BTW
Who was the Mental Giant who decided the Nashville telecaster needed 3 pickups. I never saw a Telecaster player in Nashville play one with 3 pickups (72 - 77). The Fender Artist Bureau there couldn't give away Strats, but never had any Teles available. Then all of a Sudden, there were 3 pickup Teles and were called The Nashville Telecaster. AH, the power of Suggestion.
Sorry for getting off topic, but I had Jody Trapped here and it was a burning question.
