Where can I get a finger return spring that will fit a Dekley S-10? Does an Emmons work? I don't know if I have one that's broken or something just slipped 'cause when I look at the underside of the S-10 one of the springs is 1/4" shorter than all the rest. One day some time ago I was playing it when something went "snap" (mechanically, not in my head), but I couldn't find the source, the only thing I saw was the shorter spring.
Any ideas or recommendations will be greatly appreciated. |

Sounds like a previous owner cut that spring off. If it's on the 9th string, they might have cut it off to get a firmer 1/2 stop feel on the 2nd string.
I can't think of what could have caused the "snap", but if the changes all work, I'd write it off as a one-time thing. If you think the spring is causing it, just swap it out with one on a string that doesn't get lowered. |

What I do is, I measure the spring with a calliper rule and go to a store specialized in springs and pick the one that comes closest. Over here they sell them by the meter (a bit over 3 ft.) and I just cut it to the length that I need. Putting the loop on it is a bit tough, but a matter of practice. I replaced all the springs on the E9th side of one of my ShoBuds.
Good luck, Joe H. |
