Ok, I know I'm not very good, but here is my attempt at The Old Rugged Cross, and my first video post here on the forum. Constructive criticism welcome!

Tim, I do not know how long you have been playing but it looks like you are coming along very well. Steel guitar is a tough instrument to play and requires many hours of playing time to become seasoned. I encourage you to keep playing and post more videos. In a years time you will look back and see how you have improved and you will be amazed.

Tim,

Nice job. It's a good way to build a song starting out in the lower registers and then taking it up into Hughey land.

Thanks for posting.

Don

thanks guys

I hear all the makings of good steel guitarist. I heard some half pedal moves that to beginners is a very tough move to make and many don't even attempt.

You just need time so that your playing becomes more fluid. It just takes practice.

Good job.

Tim, you say you’re not very good, but you don’t say why... My guess would be because you may be fairly new, but that said, I don’t think most of us think we’re very good, at least not as good as we want to be, and that can be a great motivator to get better... No matter how good you are always try to be better... This is not an easy instrument to master, if that’s even possible... I saw a lot of good in what you did... I wish I would hit as many correct strings as you did in this video... keep playing, keep posting, I enjoyed your rendition of this beautiful song... I’ve been meaning to doing this song myself... I thought you did great!!!

thanks guys

Thanks for the encouraging words. I've had my steel for about 8 years. For a few of those years I bet I only played/practiced it a few times per year. Hopefully that will change now. I am finally really seeing progress which inspires me to practice more. I really need to work on my technique more than anything.
And... I has just got home from the Branson show an after hearing those guys, WOW. Yeah, I'm not very good. I believe I could be though with enough practice and encouragement.
