I think it's great and I always have enjoyed your writings and I have both of your books,
the Oak pub. and the Steel Wool book and LP. There's alot of info in both of them.
Happy New Year, Tony

Great job on the Kline link. You know I have always wanted a Kline U12. After reading your write up, well think God for unanswered prayers,
I would still like to have one but I don't think I would want to work on the underside. Thanks for a great website.

Thanks Winnie. There's been much discussion of Kline guitars but I've never seen the undersides of one. I'm glad to become familiar with it. Regards.

Winnie, Loved your site. Funny stories. As a fellow Kline man I really enjoyed the pics and discription of your Kline. Our copedents are worlds apart though. But that's cool. If you're ever in these parts please look me up. We met once in St. Louis. I'm the guy who ordered the Kline S13 from Joe in 1979. Does anyone know who has that guitar? Thanks, Don

Hi Winnie:

Thanks so much for the excellent website and also for the instruction book with Bill Keith. It's the book I am still using as I slog along with my steel playing.

I just glanced through the Kline mechanisms page and thought what a wonderful resource for anyone who plays a ZB (like me) or a BMI guitar - the pull mechanism is almost the same and I get alot of questions about how to adjust ZBs from my friends and students who play these wonderful guitars.

A great resource - many, many thanks!

Larry

One more question, Winnie - where can I find a copy of your other pedal steel book, A Manual of Style?

I would love to peruse the pages!

Best,
larry

In reply to "the Manual of Style"

I forgoet how many were printed, but if they are still around Jimmie Crawford would have them. Also, I think someone got one from Scotty a while back.

Best!

Larry, I think Scotty's still has them in stock. That's where I got mine a while back.

As a ZB owner I was quite interested to see the Kline mechanism. It looks just like the ZB at the changer. The other parts are fancier but seem to do the same thing. Anyone know who came up with that changer design? Was that Zane's brainchild originally. I love the feel of that design. It reminds me of the push/pull in that the fingers remain in firm contact with the body or endplate. This seems quite different from your typical all-pull where there is some degree of floating going on. This positive contact must have something to do with both this type and the push/pull sound.

Thanks Winnie,

Brad Sarno

Winnie,
Thanks for posting such a great site,It really clears some questions on some of the earlier changer designs.

Also for posting the clip of Jimmy playing C6,I downloaded it last night and played it solid for about an hour or so,and many times today, the man had it sooo together, and sounded like he was havin a ball

Thanks for all your work on the site Winnie, especially for the photos and description of the Kline. Although I've spent some time looking at BJ Cole's 12 string, which is very similar, there was too much detail in the design to keep in my head before I started drawing it out. I too build my own 12 string guitars, and my keyless tuner is very similar to Joe's. On my new project I may steal a few of his ideas. My idea of the ultimate steel is a Kline crossed with an Excel with the quality of manufacture of an Anapeg. By the way, I did exactly the same thing to my steel to put my keyless tuner on:- gritted my teeth and took a saw to it! Thanks again for all of your contribution to pedal steel guitar over the years, Dave.
