I have heard of several instances of steel guitars being severely damaged, because the case fell off the conveyer belt, while being loaded into an airplane. It seems to me a flight case should suspend the guitar in several inches of foam rubber to absorb any shock, should the case be dropped. Does any case company build such a flight case?

I had a case custom made that should be able to withstand a short drop. Its got rollers built into one end so it rolls like a BIG suitcase. The problem is with my D10 P/P in it the whole load weighs 103 lbs. I've got another case for local work.
My flight case was made in Frenchtown N.J. I can't remember the name of the co. but I'll check on it if you want me to. I think it cost me about $400.

I use a SKB double recurve bow case which is perfect for my MCI D10. It is a bit longer than the steel but it gives me room for a few other bits, it has wheels on one end and keeps the weight of the complete package down without losing any of the robustness required to survive flying !!!
I re-did the foam on the inside to make a nice tight custom fit for the guitar and pedal bar etc !! Have been using it for about 8 years without any damage..
