Guitar Player magazine story with Robert Randolph who says Peavey will soon be making a new signature steel guitar amp. Anyone heard about this?

There was a thread about this amp a few weeks ago.It is indeed the Robert Randolph model, varied opinions on this amp, as to whether it would suit "classic" players or if it is geared more at the Robert Randolph style players. Can only speak for UK, but Peavey are not supplying ANY steel amps here and have closed their depot at Corby. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

Mike Brown chimed in on that thread and reassured everyone that it will be capable of giving the sounds that steel players expect. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

In the Guitar Player interview with Robert Randolph it's clear that LOUD is important to him. That was certainly the case when I heard his Experience Hendrix performance a few years ago. On stage with Joe Satriani and a few other top players, Marshall equipped. "The Father of Loud" would have been proud. I don't recall what amps Robert used, but db/SPL-wise let's just say, he kept up.
So I've got to wonder if Hartley is about to launch a Class-D amp with neo-mag speaker for steel guitar. The idea has a lot of appeal.

Well, saw the earlier thread, which answered some of my questions
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=278346&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Did not see any specifics about what speakers will be in them. Just said separate cab, 2x12 or 1x15. The power amp will be class-D. It might offer way more features than I need. But nothing says you have to use every feature. Peavey has a track record of giving us a lot for the $$. I could see using this new RR head, and having a separate cab with one 12", maybe Telonics or Travis Toy's new signature speaker. My back would thank me |

Dustin, plenty of good reasonable priced amps out there, try GK MB200, or Carvin BX500. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

I would have no interest in killing my back humping a real heavy valve amp, and at end of day how many in the audience can tell the difference. The Carvin has Valve in the preamp section, still only weights about 5or 6 lbs.But as they say " to each his own", we all like different things. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

Well there are solid state and solid state. I loved my Lab Amp, but it sounded like a tube amp. Brad explained the difference to me some years ago. Different transistors, wired in a different way. I sold that amp when my buddy at TNN could order anything from Peavey when TNN was ordering their backlines. I got a Vegas. I hated it! All fundamental, no harmonics. Sterile. So happy to get back to a Twin! But it's a matter of personal opinion. I like the Panther Hall sound, others don't. JMHO. I like to hear the interaction, which does not happen with Peaveys. _________________ Dr. Z Surgical Steel amp, amazing!

That price doesn't seem to be out of line considering all the features it has, and of course the street price will probably be less. It looks pretty versatile to me. |

I feel ya, John. I had a nice Twin with a pair of 12" EV SROs. It was HEAVY.. I was young(er?). Someone broke in, went straight to the 2nd floor and took it, nothing else. I can only hope the low-life got a hernia. |

John my first steel amp was Lab L9, was great guitar amp but did not like it for steel, what are your views on the two new guys on block Telonics and Steelaire ? Bad back problem means I need lightest rig I can get, hence Millenium and MB 200 with Sica neo speaker. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

McM,
Haven't tried those amps,, so I can't say. I had Rick Johnson make me split cabs for the Twin. Not too bad to carry.

Malcolm - the Telonics TCA500 is not heavy and is the best steel amp I have tried. Just open up that sporran and put an order in. You won't look back. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Actually I'm in the process of going to tubes. I have a MusicMan 65 non-reverb head and I'm repurposing two Dean Markley combo amps for speaker cabs. I have a bad back and I need lightweight and inexpensive(spelled CHEAP)solutions. Now if I could score a GFI keyless for $0 I'd be in the paint 👌! As it is I'm going to have to invest in a big wheeled two wheeler for my MSA...... _________________ D.S. Rigsby |

Dustin, you probably won't get any cheaper or lighter setup than MB200, total weight of amp/speaker/cab is 21lbs, amp sells for a few hundreds dollars, speaker around a hundred and fifty, ( or use any existing speaker/cab you may already have). If back problem is a major factor, don't think you will find anything better, if not then go with what suits you.. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

Some reviews of the Gallien-Krueger MB200 state that it's a noisy amp. That's what put me off of buying one when folks started using them for steel guitar. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Never had any noise problem with it Ken, think a lot of it was earthing problems that seem to occur in US wiring systems. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

It sure does. The aluminum strips on the side are an interesting vicual choice. Dated, but kind of in a good way and remind me visually of all the 80's era Peavey bass amps and cabs I've played through over the years. Never owned one myself, but they never seem to die and end up in the backline of so many churches and venues. |

I have seen the picture of the Telonics 12" Amp by Johnny Cox. I've tried to get into Telonics to talk with Dave Beatty; but he is a busy captain.
Can someone tell me about this amp and the cost for one. |
