Are pedal steel guitar legs universal - PSG Newbie

Hi there folks,

I have recently acquired an old pack a seat from a good friend of mind however the seat is too tall for the pedal steel.

My question is are all legs on the pedal steel guitars universal? I was thinking of buying some extendable legs for my GFI Student model to lift it up a bit so I can sit comfortably.

Other than that I thought about shortening the legs on the seat however this would mean If I buy a pro model in the future the seat would be too low etc.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks guys

If you put on longer legs, you very well may have to extend the pedal rods.

Hi Richard, Thanks for your reply.

I was thinking of only the back legs that way I don't have to extend the pedal rods.

Thanks

Ben, aren't the legs adjustable on your guitar?

Hi Henry,

Thanks for your email.

No, the GFI Student Model guitar does not come with adjustable legs.

Thanks

GFI uses a different thread size that the standard used by most other builders.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply.

Ok well looks like I may have to shorten the legs on the old seat!

Thanks again.

I'd talk to GFI about longer legs, if the seat is the right height. Or put something under the legs.

Hey Ben - are you sure the pack seat is the perfect height for you. I'd experiment with seats of different height to find the most comfortable for you (if necessary modifying/replacing the pack a seat before messing with the steel).

The other option might be to change the ange of the steel - you might find raising the back legs slightly (if they don't extend, just put something under them to experiment). A lot of players have the steel tilted forwards or backwards slightly and a small adjustment can make a big difference.

When I got my new steel a few weeks ago, I thought it was too high for me - I couldn't reach LKV without lifting my foot off the pedals. I was looking into getting new legs and rods and then someone suggested lowering the back legs slightly and now it's perfect for me. Even if you end up having to buy a couple of back legs, that's better than 4 legs and rods.
