Hello everyone,
Im fixing up an old shobud 6139, its a '73 with rack and barrel system. I recently changed strings, and while I was at it I cleaned the roller nut, by removing the rollers that the strings sit in, and cleaning the axel that they slide over, which incidently was a complete mess, all gunked up where the rollers wouldnt move cleanly. So I removed the rollers and used 0000 steel wool on the axel and it cleaned up really well, then I lightly oiled with 3 and 1 oil, but I dont think I put the rollers back on in the same order? Is this a major problem? they do not seem like guaged nut rollers, but some still seem like they dont roll smoothly.. yikes!! any help appreciated

If some don't turn smoothly, they're probably gunged up inside. They're not gauged, Sho-Bud wouldn't have played that.

I agree with Lane. I don't think they were gauged.

Erv is dead on. BTW, Shobud did use gauged rollers on some of the earlier models. If you had gauged rollers, you would easily see it, so I doubt you do have gauged. Like Erv suggest, move them around until you find the best slot for each roller. As Lane suggest, make sure the rollers are dead-on clean.

I've seen side drag on those, check the axle shaft isent slightly bent and you don't have hair in there from the steel wool.
