Just found myself wondering how many folks out there have left traded their modern Emmons or equivalent for an early ShoBud, ZB, or that kinda thing. I'm making this move right now and I'm extatic about the arrival of Mr. Damir's beautiful Fingertip Sho-Bud. I'm going to play my last gig on the Emmons tonight before I put her in a box and send her to him. Oh yea!!!

I think your comment "Oh yeah" sums it up. There is no Sho-Bud on the planet I would trade any Emmons D-10 from any era for, but that's me. In the meantime, pick the strings off it and have a ball.

I agree, you got the short end of the stick.
I started out with a fingertip and traded it off as soon as I could.
I wouldn't trade an Emmons for two fingertips.

The answer to the question is NO. As for me: They can have my Emmons when they pry it out of my cold-dead-fingers.

I traded a worn out Emmons push pull fatback for a ShoBud Super Pro, and I am GLAD I did. The Emmons was so worn out, that I could buy a new guitar for what it would cost to get it into playable condition. I do not regret the trade at all.

In this case, it's just the opposite, he's trading a late model Emmons for an old fingertip.

If a Shobud is what YOU want then it's a good trade!!!

Even Buddy Emmons often played different brands of guitars! If the Sho~Bud sound is what you're after, no Emmons in the world will make you happy. Damir is probably happy he got a guitar worth more money, and you're probably happy you're getting the sound you really long for.

That sounds like a win-win situation, to me!

I'm with Donny on this one . If that's THE steel you want, then you'll do whatever it takes to get it . It might mean coming out on the short end of the stick money wise, maybe not, but your happy to get it . If that's the Fingertip Damir had on the forum, it is a beautiful steel . I bet you'll love it ! Of course , I wouldn't trade my Emmons for anything ! Lol

I lost sleep for a few nights wanting that Fingertip!

The comments above that say you got a bad deal are just opinions from Emmons enthusiasts. How many REALLY nice Fingertip Buds are for sale? How else can you get THAT tone?

I'd trade a late-model Emmons for THAT guitar any day...maybe two Emmons.

This kind of question will bring out some pretty soul-crushing replies, so ignore them and move on.

I have made some trade deals that i am sure many would question my sanity, but I really cant say i regretted any f them...at the time it was what i waned to do, for a variety of reasons....i saw that fingertip sho bud and i can see why you wanted it,,, it is a beauty...please pst more pics of it when you get it ! Good for you,,,i say go for it and enjoy it. !!!

There's not many Fingertips left, and fewer good ones. This is exciting, Jake. I can't wait to find out what kind of magic you coax out of that beauty. The white fretboards are very classy.

The best steel tone I ever heard came from a fingertip. An Emmons wrap around was a close second. The one Emmons LL I played was average.

I have a Pro II next to a PP and they both have great tone. ..the C6 neck of the bud is my favorite...fwiw...a fingertip has the type of tone I gravitate toward.

Most fingertips I have seen trade. ... were beat up and in virtually unplayable condition....thus their apparent low price. ... but if this one pictured is in as nice shape as the pic it is a time capsule and far more exciting than a late model emmons. You can buy a late model emmons any day of the week if you would just prefer to look at the fingertip and not play it.

I guess it all depends on whether you want a guitar to look at or one to play.

I'd think a Moreheaded Fingertip would be about equal to a LeGrande in value.
And if you want Fingertip tone, you won't get it in the Emmons.

haha. .. just an expression. ... a gorgeous guitar in the living room unplayed has more value than 10 in cases stacked in storage.

The day I would trade an Emmons LeGrande II for a Sho~Bud Fingertip is the day I forgot to take my medications.

An Emmons all-pull guitar, I would seriously consider a trade. A push-pull, I would really have to think hard about that one.

Jake, I have both the Emmons push pulls, and the Sho-Bud Fingertips available to play here. Both guitars are great players, however I much prefer the Fingertips to the Emmons. Also there is always an Emmons available for sale if you ever want one again, whereas it would take some time to locate another nice Fingertip.

Exactly what Mr. Tom Quinn said.
I own both Emmons and Sho~Buds. The monetary numbers don't add up between the two manufactures. Jake if that's what makes you happy then it's a great deal.

What matters is if you are satisfied. I once owned a Marlen D-10. Great tone, waaayyy toooo heavy. I sold it and got a GFI s-10. I'm happy.

And it all depends on what kind of a player you are, too. But if I had a choice, I'd take that 'Bud over a LeGrande any day!

Same here Donny. I prefer the sound of Bud's and ZB's. But a push-pull is good too. The Legrandes I hear locally, sound just like every other modern all pull guitar.
