Where may I find someone who makes custom canvas covers for steel guitar cases? I picture a cover made of canvas (maybe padded on the inside) with two zippers, that will each close from the hinged back of the case on each side to the handle. Best to have a flap that will push under the handle and snap with two snaps.
I've seen these on violin cases. Who custom makes these for steel cases?

Any upholstery shop could make such a cover, and so could anyone who fabricates amp covers, boat cushions and canvas, or fabric awnings. However, most steelers wouldn't want the few pounds it would add to an already-heavy instrument.
You don't have this "weight problem" with violins!  |

...could'nt be over two or three pounds more, Donny. Anyway, I usually walk into a place reverse curling my Webb amp in my left hand and my steel in the right.  ...I wish!
If all of the tweed Fender cases produced had come with canvas covers, more would have survived all the years of being tossed around.

It hurt just reading your story about travelling with the Stringmaster.

I made one out of neoprene that has worked out well.
Actually, my wife did the sewing, but it only takes one straight line of sewing, about 3 feet long or so (just a little less than the length of your case).
It is basically a sock that fits over your case.
The neoprene is stretchy, so it fits snugly, The neoprene is also about 1/4" thick and rubbery, so it is like a shock absorber.
I cut a slot for the handle, (the latches are held closed under the neoprene).
I got the neoprene at a fabric wharehouse.
The idea was originally to keep wear and tear on the case down, and pad any shocks to the case during a flight or in transit.

| I make an amp cover that is made out of .093 rigid black polyethylene. It is lined with 1/2" gray case lining foam. It gives you the more amp protection than any vinyl or canvas cover ever can. The bonus is that since it is rigid, you can use it for an amp or effects stand. The price runs from $75.00 to $95.00, plus UPS. I can e-mail you a photo if interested. |
