A steel player and good friend asked me to check into this for him,so here goes...Does anyone out there know what Terry Bethel's Tunings and pedal setup consist of?? Some of his E9 style sounds a bit like a Diatonic tuning, and some of his C6 sounds like he uses the D string inserted between strings 6 & 7 . No matter what he uses,he sounds great! Thanks!

Wayne,

Terry uses a pretty much standard E9 with the 2nd string tuned open to D. He raises and lowers it. He also drops the 5th string a whole step. He doesn't have it on the same pedal as the 6th whole step drop. He uses a D on top on his C6. He has what would be our 8th pedal dropping 9 & 10 and raising 7 over in the 6th pedal position, next to pedal 5 that raises 9 and 10 and lowers the 5th string. He has a 9th pedal, which I added to my set up, that raises 10 to D, just like the 5th pedal, but it drops the 5th string a whole tone with it. Open, it makes for a D minor 9th. It works well, and is pretty easy to get used to using. I'm sure Terry would be glad to elaborate further on his set up. Email him, and he would probably answer you. I'm not sure of his email address, but he's a member on the forum, and they should have it listed. Hope that helps! Wayne, hope you're doing okay.
