Topic: Need help with Emmons Serial Numbers |

I recently purchased an Emmons S-10 that looks like a 70's vintage.
On the changer end is a stamped number
1544 S and on the tuning key end, there is a scribed number that appears to be 05KAL or 0SKAL. It's hard to tell.
Can anyone tell me about the serial numbers and which one might be it on which end of the guitar?

1544S is the serial#.

If anyone knows can you help me as well?My S10 has the serial# 1243 S.Any clues?I remember someone saying you can tell by the date on the tone control? but I can't read the numbers on that.

The S-10 I just put up in the closet has the nymber 478 something stamped on it. Guess it really is like me. OLD

The D10's have some pretty accurate records but I am not aware of any for the S10's.
I think you can tell quite a bit by the type changer it has and which pedal design. Bolt-on changer would be usually be early I would think. Split changer with wide pedals still pretty early, late 60's and 70's. Split changer with LeGrande type pedals still later and with pad later still.

Jerry Roller, you are a walking encyclopedia
on Emmons guitars. I also heard you are a great tech. on them. Emmons said my guitar was built in 1978. I feel sure that is correct from what I have seen and heard. I would have expected somewhere in that range.
Thanks for all the help on this. Sure are glad you guys read about steel guitars.
OK Tom, how much for the Emmons S-10 you just put in the closet. It will never get it's deserved personal attention in there.

A Pedal Steel Guitar needs love and attention, not to be ignored...

Charles;
The Emmons S-10 in the closet will magicaly turn into my 12 year old grandson's Christmas present.
He has express a desire to learn and I will do everything I can to help him along.
I picked up a small Peavy sessions amp for him in Atlanta so he will at least have the opportunity to go for it.
If he dosn't want to then after christmas I will get it back out an see what then.

My S-10 has a serial number of 1369. I was told it is a 1973. The tone pot shows the same.
