If you're in the greater Boston/New England area you may be interested in this talk at the Museum of Fine Arts. Darcy Karonen, curator of musical instruments at the MFA is a big steel guitar fan.

Monday June 1, 11am to 12 noon

The Genius of Rickenbacker: Early Electric Instruments
Mimi Rabson and Norman Zocher

Join Berklee College of Music faculty members Mimi Rabson and Norman Zocher for a look and a listen to three early electric instruments from the MFA’s collection. They will talk about the history, design, and repertoire for an electric violin made in 1936, a BD-model lap-steel guitar made about 1950, and a “Frying Pan” lap steel from about 1940, all made by the Electro String Instrument Corporation of Los Angeles. One of the founders of this pioneering firm was Adolph Rickenbacker, whose name is still used for instruments produced by the company that succeeded it.

Mimi is the sister of Anne Rabson, founding member of Sapphire--The Uppity Blue Women. Anne was a piano player extraordinaire.

IIRC, Mimi guested on an album or two of Sapphire's.

Mimi is an acclaimed violinist.
