I'm setting up an S10 Maverick for a friend that wants to learn pedal steel.
Where are the floor pedals???
On right hand guitars the volume is on the right,floor pedals on the left...
On left hand guitars,would the volume be on the left,and floor pedals on the right. Knee levers would go in conjunction with A/B pedals.
Shot Jackson stated one time,he could build a lefthand but would have to stand on his head to do it.I understand what he meant.

I guess everything would be reversed....
I am a left handed player who plays a standard
pedal steel, so I have never seen a left handed one....
I agree with Lloyd Green, who is also lefthanded, I believe all the expression and soul is in the bar hand, and maybe us lefthanded has an advantage.....

Thats basicly what I came up with,had to put kneelever on vol pedal end because of room/parts to work with. I lucked out with basicly the same setup it had. This is a starter unit for a friend.

What kind of steel is that? I play a Fender 400, and I am also a lefty. I play with the bass strings away from me, and set on the front side of the guitar. I did some rigging so I could use the pedals, and I also pedal with my right foot. That guitar is beautiful! Who made it?

Steel is a 1970 Fulawka, made by Ed Fulawka up here in Canada. First lefty he ever made. He has made 4 left handed steels in the 50 years he has been making guitars, a lap, a D-10, and 2 S-10s'. I own both S-10s', this one and a 2001 model my wife bought me for Christmas in 2001. Can't play either one but I have them!! LOL.

Both have 4 pedals and 5 knees.

Lynn Owsley is a lefty who plays most instruments left handed-- except steel. He approached Shot to build him one and the price was so high he figured it would be cheaper just learning how to play "right handed."

Lloyd is a lefty. So was Curly Chalker.

I'm a lefty, but I don't play guitar, and it seemed like such a built-in hassle to face, that I bought a righty steel, and took it up that way.

Given that technique really doesn't match between six string and steel, would it maybe make more sense to try and get the guy to learn to do it righty? Harder to buy a lefty steel, harder to sell one, etc.???

Being a left handed steel player definantly has dis-advantages. I transitioned from guitar, to lap steel, to Dobro, so getting a left-handed steel seemed like the only option for me.
I went to buy a right handed Maverick to convert, and the owner talked me out of buying it, and said I would be happier in the long run to order a left-handed model.
I think he was right. My steels are like Graham's. If I had it to do over, I might opt to learn right handed. Left handed players are so limited with selection. Only another Lefty can appeciate this.
