Tenderly seems to be a lap steel standard and I had written it off as until I heard Mikiya Matsuda's version which inspired me to get more familiar with it (something about the chord voicings he uses).
And it's interesting to me to see the variations out there:
• Mikiya told me he uses an A6/F#7 variation (so I assume that's what he's using on his)
• Mike Neer has a B11 version with string pulls of the Noel Boggs version (wondering if that's how Boggs did it?)
• Doug Beaumier has a C6 version
I approached it in C6/A7 and I'm sorta proud of myself that I picked up this arrangement by ear. Not typical for me.
I would be super-interested to hear any feedback from the forum! Especially constructive criticism on chord voicings!

Thank you, Doug and Mikiya! To be clear, I did consult fake books to steer me however I did ultimately write my own chart based upon particular chords voicings I liked and had to figure out how to approach those inversions. (Minor 9s sound so sweet and mid-century!) No tab consulting however.
Mikiya, pedals or not, those are two incredible versions. I had not heard a 3/4 arrangement yet. And the Curly Chalker version is just so cool. He's definitely a local legend here in the Kansas and Missouri area. I'll keep those on tap. Thank you. Any idea what years those are? 1950s or 60s?
Now to work out a cleaner version, solo section, and better ending. |

Great start, Nate. That tune sounds great on steel.
Thanks for the Curly and Ricco downloads, Mikaya. There are a couple of favorites versions of mine too ... by Barney Kessel and Oscar Peterson.
One of the most memorable was by Joe Venuti who would play the melody, oozing with feeling and vibrato, and then, we he got to the right place in the music, would shout out ... "Tenderly!"
